when Chujiro Hayashi taught his seminars
When Chujiro Hayashi taught his seminars, he would have all participants recite Gyosei — Japanese Waka poems. These short, fixed-form poems contain 31 syllables and are said to be the most expressive form of Japanese poetry.
As Jikiden Reiki teachers today, we continue this tradition, keeping closely to the original teachings that Chujiro Hayashi passed on when Chiyoko Yamaguchi trained with him at just 17 years of age.
Of the thousands of poems composed by the Meiji Emperor, Usui sensei selected 100 of the most outstanding as a guide for our spiritual development.

'Thought'
This waka poem, drawn from a collection held at the Meiji Temple, is simple yet profound.
If you work as a Reiki practitioner or teacher and wish to promote the acceptance and everyday use of Reiki, you may find this poem particularly resonant. We all share deep gratitude to Chujiro Hayashi for preserving these teachings — allowing us to continue this meaningful tradition in Jikiden Reiki courses today.
